Aurora Severnside, Gloucestershire
Key Facts
Client: The Aurora Group
Value: £1m
Sector: Education
Architect: DKA
Programme: 24 weeks
Form of Contract: JCT 2016 Design & Build
Scope of works: Complete strip out and refurbishment of a prefabricated, modular office facility into a purpose-built Specialist Educational Needs (SEN) School for secondary-age children.
The existing building was stripped back to its shell to allow for a complete new layout to be constructed which satisfied the specific requirements of a SEN School, as well as being fully compliant with modern Building Regulations requirements.
Having previously been used as office space, an extensive programme of external works was also undertaken, including the installation of a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) in line with Sport England specifications and significant drainage adaptions.
To soften the appearance of the building’s exterior, Siberian Larch cladding was installed to the primary elevations along with the construction of external planters and a significant programme of soft-landscaping and planting.
To ensure the building was ready for final inspection and sign-off by Ofsted in time for the new academic year, we achieved Practical Completion 2-weeks early in a 22-week period. This would not have been possible without the excellent, collaborative relationships formed amongst the whole project team, and we are delighted to have played our part in the construction of this much-needed facility.
