Scope of Work: Construction of new single storey children’s nursery.

Oakland Construction was responsible for design, planning, organisation, control and construction of the works, to deliver this new building to the client’s corporate requirements, and within a pre-determined time frame.

The company undertook Design & Build from inception to completion, appointing the architects and various consultants to design this 150-place nursery with the prime aim of delivering a secure and stimulating environment for children age 0 – 5 years in age. The new nursery also offers on – premises up to the minute commercial kitchen facilities, allowing hygienic handling of food including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage.

In consideration of the impact of the building on the environment, this subject was addressed by the introduction of - photovoltaic solar panels; underfloor heating; intelligent lighting; HVAC systems with close control and monitoring over the heating and cooling operations; and electric vehicle charging points.

To satisfy Part L – Conservation of Fuel & Power, of the Building Regulations, this high-performance building achieved a high air tightness result of 2.53 m3/hour, in excess of “best practice”, and well in excess of the “normal” for school buildings.
