Snapdragons Nursery, Redland – Conversion of Victorian Buildings
Key Facts
Client: Snapdragons Nurseries Ltd
Value: £1.1m
Sector: Education & Heritage
Architect: Design & Build
Programme: 35 weeks
Scope of Work: The contract was for the fit-out and alterations to convert two Victorian villas, to provide nursery facilities over 3 floors.
The two buildings were linked by a glazed atrium with staircase giving communal reception and access.
Whilst works were underway, the first intake of nursery children was able to carry on their learning using an existing purpose-built modern cabin that allowed easy access to the play area and outdoor space. The challenge was to safely secure the children’s space from the construction works, and segregate the construction traffic from that of the parents and staff.
The up to the minute facilities include inviting classroom/play areas and a commercial kitchen offering on-site food, with an exciting purpose designed dining/kitchen space used to teach and entertain the children. One part of the lower ground floor provides a large entertainment room complete with stage for special children’s events.
Upon handover of the buildings in time for the September opening, the play areas were landscaped complete with soft surfaces and timber playground equipment, offering an exceptional and secure environment for the children.
