Commitment To Community

Community

We prioritise employing local labour and supporting small businesses to ensure our projects help the local community. We actively engage with stakeholders, listen to community needs, and invest in community projects to encourage a sense of shared belonging and success.

We’ve always recognised and understood the significant impacts that construction projects can have on end users and the wider community. Since the Social Value Act became legislation in 2013, public sector organisations must consider the social, economic, and environmental value added to projects. In response, Oakland Construction has developed policies for sustainable procurement, corporate social responsibility, and sustainability.

Community Engagement and Mitigation Strategies

Our commitment to community engagement involves identifying gaps or potential barriers so we can apply effective resolutions. Key areas of focus for us where we aim to reduce negative impacts include noise, vibration, pollution, dust, soil management, parking, road closures, increased traffic, pavement obstruction, site security, and health and safety concerns. We also address specific disruptions such as power cuts, invasion of privacy, loss of TV signal, and litter.

We also involve local residents in any major or long-duration projects by holding open evening sessions at local venues. These sessions give residents the chance to meet the management team, including the Site Manager, and learn about the project proposals, helping to relieve any concerns.
